Come test yourself at the 1st annual Hot Iron Half Marathon and 5k Trail races at Tymor Park in Union Vale, New York.
Set in the largest town park in New York, the race covers a mix of technical single track, smooth double-track, and wide-open grassy fields. You’ll wind through tall pine forests, around pristine Furnace Pond, past iron furnace ruins, and up hills with spectacular views of the surrounding hills and fields.
The course poses a fun challenge to experienced trail runners but is gently enough to welcome new trail runners into the mix.
After completing the race, enjoy awesome post-race food prepared by CIA Chef-Instructor, Brian Kaywork, local craft beer, and soak up the crisp fall air and fall foliage.
Race entry includes: a well marked course with aid stations, race t-shirt, finisher’s prize, and post-race food and beer. Plus an awesome race through the beautiful trails in Tymor Park.
Awards will be given to the top 3 overall men and women in each race as well as the top men and women in each age group. There will also be special awards given post-race when you participate in the Strava Challenge!

Take the Strava Challenge!!
There will be four Strava segments on the course. Two will be on both the 5k & Half course. The other two will be on the Half Marathon course. Each will be marked on the course during the race. Post-race, we’ll calculate the fastest cumulative Strava segment times for both races. The top man and women in each race will be deemed King and Queen of the Course and will receive a special award.
How to Participate
You must have a GPS watch or smartphone recording your race. After the race, upload your race activity to Strava within 24 hours. We will calculate the winners and notify the King and Queen of the races that week.
What is Strava?
Strava is like Facebook for athletes. You can upload activities and receive “kudos” (equivalent to a Facebook Like) from other athletes who follow you. You can sign up for Strava here or download the app on your phone.
What are Strava Segments?
Segments are specific sections of roads or trails that other Strava athletes have noted as segments. These are often challenging hill climbs, tricky downhill sections, or parts of common routes that many runners run. Once you run a segment on Strava, you can compare your times to other athletes as well as to other times you’ve run that same segment.
Both races take place solely in Tymor Park. Use 11 Tymor Park Road, Lagrangeville, NY in your GPS.
There is ample parking in the park. If the parking lot is full, volunteer attendants will direct you to additional parking.
